App Behaviors: Ability to set time for daily reset

I go to bed around 00:30. Habits I complete after midnight (night routine, wind-down, etc.) are currently logged as part of the next day. This breaks mental models, and requires manual correction every day.

I don’t want to re-log or adjust habits that are clearly part of the previous night.

I would also love to see this feature get added.

This is a very legitimate concern. I too complete a number of tasks late into the evening sometimes after midnight or even 1 a.m. (treadmill, studying languages, journaling) I’d like that activity to still show as completed for that specific day, not the next day. For the journaling and studying it is possible to just hit the button earlier, my treadmill work is synced to my Apple Health. It does not log until I get on the treadmill.

    Hello!

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback. I completely understand how this creates a conflict with your mental model—when you're in the middle of a "wind-down" routine, it certainly feels like the same day until you actually go to sleep.

I’d like to provide some insight into why the app behaves this way from a technical perspective:

    1. Chronological Data Accuracy

In order to ensure that your data is saved and displayed accurately across different devices and timezones, Habitify must follow the exact calendar date and time.

    1. The Midnight Transition

For example, you might consider your "day" to start at 6:00 AM on February 3rd and expect your habits to reset then. However, in terms of data logging:

    • The moment the clock strikes 0:00 AM on February 3rd, the system recognizes it as a brand-new calendar day.

    • Any log made between 0:00 AM and 6:00 AM is technically occurring on February 3rd.

    • Because it is a new day, the habit progress resets to zero to stay synchronized with the calendar.

We recognize that this "hard reset" at midnight can be inconvenient for those who have a late-night rhythm. While the app currently requires exact chronological logging to maintain data integrity, we are constantly looking for ways to make our scheduling more flexible to accommodate "night owl" routines.

In the meantime, the best way to ensure they stay on the "correct" day mentally is to log those specific habits just before the midnight cutoff, or continue with the manual adjustment as you have been doing.

We appreciate your patience and for helping us understand how you use the app!

App Behaviors: Ability to set time for daily reset

I would love to be able to set the time at which a new day is considered “Today”. This could either be set independently, or it could simply be the time at which Morning starts. For example, in my case morning starts at 7:00 am, but the habits reset daily at 00:00.

I think this is important for night owls me where I often tend to go to bed at 2/3am. Also very important for shift workers.

I may have tasks from the day that I only finish late at night, eg. at 1am but they currently tick off the wrong tasks (the ones for “tomorrow” rather than what I still consider to be “today”).

For example, if I have a late night reminder set for 1am and I mark it complete, it should complete the outstanding task from that preceding day, even though technically the task wasn’t marked as completed until (the hourly hours of) the following day.

A single time for “when morning starts” as suggested would be fine, as long as all task completions/reminders prior to that time are considered part of the previous day’s logs?
