Log Progress: Make it a choice in settings to rename “Fail” button to just the symbol ✖️

When hitting the “Fail“ button, it feels like I have failed. Hitting this button might on some days even feel like I am a failure. It’s very demotivating!

There is no reason why this app should demotivate us, because it’s a very great app otherwise. Words matter a lot when it comes to motivation vs. demotivation!

To choose to hide habits there is no time for today, doesn’t necessarily mean that we have failed. It could also mean that something else actually is more important today, and we take responsibility for that.

Please make it a choice in settings to rename the “Fail” button to just the symbol ✖️

Check-in: Please change Fail to ‘Didn’t Do’

Checking off the Fail option is discouraging. I’d love if there was more neutral or even encouraging language, like - not yet, or next time. Thanks for considering

      Hi!

We have an option to mark your habit as “Skip” and it has the same meaning as “didn't do”. It helps freeze your current streak.

      Have you tried it yet?

      No more "Fails"

I actually stopped using this app for some time for the sole reason the you use the word “fail” when you haven’t completed something for the day. It’s very negative and self-denigrating. Maybe I didn’t complete it, but that doesn’t mean I failed.

Check-in: Replace the demotivating word “Fail” with a more neutral word like “Hide” or simply the symbol “X”.

The word “Fail” is today used when we want to hide a habit we don’t have time for today. There is no need that the app should make us feel like we continuously fail. Focus on our success is motivating, focusing on our failures are the opposite.

✅✖️Check-in: Please replace the demotivating word “Fail” with a more neutral word like “Hide” or simply the symbol “X”.

The word “Fail” is today used in check-in when we want to Hide a habit we don’t have time for today. This focus on Fails contributes slightly to the feeling of failure, which is demotivating.

Focusing on our success and success rates is motivating, but focusing on our failures and misses is the opposite.

To admin: Please don’t merge this post with the “Didn’t Do” post, because they are not the same. While that post’s intention is very good, the “Didn’t do” wording proposal is terrible and won’t get any traction. However, you are free to merge that post under this one. Thank you very much 😊

It is also an option to have a choice in settings for alternative words or symbols to replace “Fail”. Something to consider!🙏 🙏

This is for all of us that are conscious of the bad impact of continuously admitting Fail has on self-esteem and motivation.

To choose to hide habits there is no time for today doesn’t necessarily mean that we have failed. It could also mean that something else actually is more important today, and we take responsibility for that.

Still, we today must admit “Fail” to be able to hide the habit. (Since it normally not feels fair to get awarded for hiding a habit, I find that “Skip” is most of the days not relevant outside of special circumstances.)

I really hope that this feature will be implemented to avoid the demotivational effects because of negative wording.

In the bottom of the Journal view, habits are grouped into Success and Fail. The “Fail” group could nicely be renamed by the word “Hided”.

Then the demotivational word is replaced by a neutral one. The app will no longer make us feel like we are failing, and the focus is more on our great successes. Focus on success is more motivating than focusing on failure.

On the statistics page you can do just the same, or you can just remove it completely. If it is counted Complete, Skipped and Total, the Failed number is actually not relevant. It could be very demotivating though.

Thank you for considering this 😊

We’ve updated the wording of Fail button to be less demotivated.
