Apple Watch: Silent Timer Expiration on Apple Watch

I set a 10-minute timer on my Apple Watch. The timer reached zero, and on the dimmed always-on display, it shows 0. However, there are no sound notifications indicating that the timer has finished. Only when I raise my wrist and the screen lights up does the sound notification for the timer going off actually play.
