Goal: Apply goal change to the day in past

Hi, I’m not sure if this is intended behavior or a bug, but I noticed something while tracking my habits.

I had a task that was initially set to 3 times per day. Later I realized that wasn’t realistic for me, so I changed it to 2 times per day.

After changing it, I expected my previous entries to reflect this change. On most earlier days I had already completed the task twice, so I thought those days would now appear as completed. However, the app still shows the old requirement (2/3) for past days, and it only shows 2/2 starting from the day I changed the habit.

I also noticed similar behavior with other habits that have different frequencies, such as twice a week, twice a year, or every 3 days.

Earlier it seemed like the app handled this differently, so I’m wondering if this might be a bug or a recent change in behavior.

If possible, could this be changed so that when the frequency of a habit is updated, the previous entries are also recalculated based on the new target?

Thanks you!

It is the intended behaviour, as people usually change goals for the future. However, it is as important to be able to to change goals for the past.

In my opinion, to satisfy both demands there should be a popup asking to apply changes to all occurances or only future occurances.

    Complicating the issue:

    Goal changes timeline:

    |——————|————————-|

    Start change future change past

In the above case changing the past occurances will apply changes from which date, i.e, from start or from the date of last goal change?

That makes sense, I like the popup idea.

For the timeline part, maybe it’s simpler if “change past” just lets you pick a date (like from the start or a custom date), instead of trying to figure it out automatically.

That way it’s clear and less confusing, especially if the goal has been changed multiple times.

    Hello @Deepthi !

Currently, the change in goal will be applied from the current day when you make the changes. This will helps protect your achievement in the past while increasing your ambition for the future. It is true that we did not count the case where you want to change the goal in the past to accomplish your previous completion. Still, we will note this for the team. Maybe a confirmation to make change to Today Only, In the Future, or Since Start Date (like in Calendar) might be a good option. How do you think?

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense.

I think it would be really helpful to have options like “Today only”, “In the Future”, and “Since start date”.

In my case, I changed the goal because the original one wasn’t realistic for me, so it would be nice if I could apply that change to past days too and see a more accurate picture.

I get that some people might want to keep their past data as it is, while others might want to update it. Having the option to choose would make it a lot more flexible.
