Feature suggestion: Brain Dump

Hi,

I’ve been using Habitify for a while now and really enjoy the app. I’d like to suggest adding a “brain dump” feature - a quick space where users can jot down thoughts, ideas, or tasks in the moment, without immediately having to assign them to a specific habit or category.

Many people use a brain dump as a way to clear their mind of unfinished thoughts, especially in the morning or evening, and later turn some of those notes into actual habits or tasks within the app. It would be great to have a separate, simple, quick-note section that doesn’t interfere with the existing habit tracking.

Thanks for the app, and for taking the time to consider this suggestion!

Best regards,

Iosif

Hi @mirt.a.iosif ! We just released the Habitify 48.0 with the Reflection space, where you can write down everything without any habit attached. Just pull down the Journal view to see the gate to open the Reflections space!

Hi Iosif — thanks for the Brain Dump idea, and for the extra vote on this thread.

We’ve closed the duplicate copy and pointed it here. This is closely related to Note: Global notes (a global place to jot things that aren’t tied to a single habit). We’ll keep tracking interest in that direction without turning Habitify into a full notes app.

If you have a specific flow in mind (morning dump → later turn some notes into habits), feel free to add it here.

      Hi again,

One more concrete thought on where this could live in the app: I looked at the current mood check-in screen (mood selector + influence tags + "Additional context" text field), and I think Brain Dump would work best as a separate, optional element there rather than merged into "Additional context."

      Reasoning:

      • "Additional context" is tied specifically to explaining the mood you just logged (why you feel this way). It's reflective, not action-oriented.

      • Brain dump serves a different purpose - capturing thoughts, tasks, or ideas that may have nothing to do with the mood itself. Mixing the two risks confusing what each field is for.

      Concretely:

      • Below the existing "Additional context" field, add a collapsed-by-default row like "+ Brain dump (optional)". Tapping it expands a free-text field, visually distinct (e.g. dashed border or a "free thoughts" label) to signal it doesn't need to be coherent or mood-related.

      • Keep it collapsed by default - the check-in screen is already fairly dense (mood, tags, context), so an always-open field would add friction exactly when people want a quick check-in.

      • The existing influence tags (Family, Friends, Love, Work, School, Health) could optionally carry over when a brain dump note is later triaged into a habit or task, so there's no need for a separate tagging system.

      • The "Log mood" button stays exactly as is - brain dump stays fully optional and doesn't block or alter the save flow.

This keeps it lightweight and native to the existing check-in flow rather than feeling like a bolted-on notes feature.

      Best, Iosif

Thanks, Iosif—this is very helpful and concrete. Keeping Brain Dump separate from mood context, collapsed by default, and fully optional is a clear way to avoid adding friction. Carrying influence tags into later triage is also a useful detail. I’ve added these points to the request for product review.
