Area: Ability to Categorize and Grouping within area

Problem

Areas are great for organizing habits, but once an Area grows large it can become difficult to manage and navigate.

For example, I have an Area called My Library that contains books I want to read before purchasing new books. As my library grows, all of the books appear in a single long list with no way to organize them into meaningful groups.

Requested Feature

Allow users to create Categories within an Area.

Categories would act as organizational sections that group related habits together while remaining inside the same Area.

Example

Area: My Library

Self-Help

  • Atomic Habits

  • The Untethered Soul

  • The Let Them Theory

Non-Fiction

  • The Body Keeps the Score

  • Say It Plain

Fiction

  • The Alchemist

  • Project Hail Mary

Users could collapse, expand, reorder and manage categories independently.

Benefits

  • Makes large Areas easier to navigate.

  • Reduces visual clutter.

  • Allows users to organize reading lists, learning plans and projects more effectively.

  • Prevents the need to create multiple Areas solely for organizational purposes.

  • Creates a more scalable structure for users who maintain large collections of habits or tasks.

Additional Ideas

  • Drag and drop habits between categories.

  • Collapse or expand categories.

  • Show progress by category.

  • Filter the Area by category.

  • Allow ChatGPT to automatically create and organize categories.

For example:

β€œCreate an area named My Library and group these books into Self-Help, Fiction and Non-Fiction categories.”

This would make Habitify much more useful for managing learning libraries, reading lists, projects and other large collections of habits.
