This could possibly change the experience and habit-tracking concept, but it’s an innovation for the better!
More often than not, I personally find myself stuck in the perfectionist mentality – and I know I’m not the only one 🙂
Right now, when logging the habit, we can choose from:
Complete (and eventually log a specific value)
Skip
Fail
HOWEVER, there are times where I dedicated myself to the habit through the day/week but maybe it wasn’t the priority or I think I could have done better.
➡️ I propose adding a “*” log option, which represent effort that falls between “complete” and “fail” => it would acknowledge progress even when the habit wasn’t fully completed but still worked towards.
🤔It would be the state of “mmmh”, “kind of”, “maybe”, “yes but not completely”: it means that I put in effort in the habit but not enough, but I still want to value it.
✅ This is to prevent falling into the “all or nothing mentality”, which can damage honesty, motivation, personal accountability and the habit formation process itself => instead, the “YES-KIND OF-NO” allows flexibility. We all know that consistency>perfection.
🙌🏻 I understand that for some people it would change the concept of habit log, so it could be added as an optional feature: for people who want it, they can activate it, and so the choices to log in the habit would be: complete - fail - skip - *kind of* (when you swipe left or right on the habit in the journal).
In the progress graphic, a habit logged in as * could maybe count half of the “completion” value.
☺️ Obviously one has to be honest with themselves, but – I experienced it myself – something is better than nothing (especially in this context!).
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this feature, including possible name for this * option!
PS I hope this reaches all the perfectionists out there :)
